Here are some solutions to common file access problems…

When installing you receive:

  • error in installation of file secure viewer, or
  • error sub code:18001, or
  • “you have no rights to modify the registry” message

When trying to register you receive:

  • “Please connect to the Internet” notice
  • Password box keeps popping up or appearing even after they enter the correct password.

There can be two causes to these issues:

1) You have some firewall or anti-virus software running on your PC that is preventing the file from connecting to the Internet to register your copy.

Try TEMPORARILY disabling all anti-virus and firewall software that is running on your PC first. Then opening the file. Once the file is open and registered, you can then re-activate your firewall and/or anti-virus software.

If you still receive the connection error, see point #2.

2) Some PC may require you to be logged in as the administrator in order for the file to connect to the Internet or to install software that modifies the registry like the File Secure Pro Viewer.

If you are using Windows Vista:

  1. Right-click on the file and choose “run as administrator“.***
  2. Under this tab find Compatibility Mode, and check the Box – change the drop down menu box to Windows XP Service pack 2
  3. Next, find Privilege Level and now check the box that says Run This Program As An Administrator. (this will avoid having to right click the shortcut all the time to start to start the program)
  4. Now Apply the changes, then, click OK.
  5. Start the Program….The built in Windows Security will kick in and ask whether you want to allow the program to run or not. Click Allow.

You should now be able to run the file without errors.

If you are using Windows XP:

  1. In Windows Explorer, click the program executable file that you want to open.
  2. Press SHIFT and hold, right-click the program icon, and then click Run as.
  3. To log on using an Administrator account, click The following user.
  4. In User name and Password, type the Administrator account name and password that you want to use.

*** If you have no option to select RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR then you need to activate the multi-user function in windows.

  1. Log on to the computer as Administrator, or log on as a user with administrative permissions.
  2. Right-click the My Computer icon, and then click Manage.
  3. In Computer Management, expand the Services and Applications node, and then click Services.
  4. In the details pane, right-click the Secondary Logon service, and then click Properties.
  5. In the Properties dialog box, set Startup type to Automatic, and then click Start.
  6. After the computer starts the service, click OK to close the Properties dialog box, and then close Computer Management. The service that is required to run the Run As command is now running on your computer.
  7. Next, go to the ebook file and right click on it. The RUN AS option should now appear.
